ด้วยความอาลัยยิ่ง คณะวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬาและสุขภาพ มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ และประชาคมวิชาการไทย ขอร่วมไว้อาลัยต่อการจากไปของ ศาสตราจารย์เกียรติคุณ ดร.สุธรรม อารีกุล บุคคลผู้เป็นที่เคารพรักอย่างสูงในวงการการศึกษา วิทยาศาสตร์ และการพัฒนาประเทศ ท่านคือผู้มีบทบาทสำคัญใน การวางรากฐานการศึกษาด้านวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬาและสุขภาพ ของประเทศไทย และมีคุณูปการอันยิ่งใหญ่ต่อมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์
ชีวิตและเส้นทางแห่งการอุทิศตน
ศาสตราจารย์เกียรติคุณ ดร.สุธรรม อารีกุล เป็น นักกีฏวิทยาผู้เชี่ยวชาญระดับแนวหน้า ของประเทศไทย ผลงานวิจัยของท่านเกี่ยวกับแมลงทางการเกษตรมีส่วนช่วยพัฒนาวงการเกษตรกรรมของประเทศอย่างมาก ทำให้เกิดความก้าวหน้าในด้านการควบคุมศัตรูพืช การอนุรักษ์ความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ และการจัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติที่ยั่งยืน
ในด้านการบริหาร ท่านมีบทบาทสำคัญใน การผลักดันการจัดตั้งคณะวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬาในปี พ.ศ. 2532 ซึ่งเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการศึกษาและพัฒนานวัตกรรมด้านวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬาในประเทศไทย และล่าสุด ท่านยังมีบทบาทสำคัญในการ จัดตั้งคณะวิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพและการกีฬาในปี พ.ศ. 2567 เพื่อรองรับความต้องการของสังคมในการพัฒนาองค์ความรู้ด้านสุขภาพและกีฬาให้สอดคล้องกับมาตรฐานสากล
คุณูปการต่อมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์และสังคมไทย
ศาสตราจารย์เกียรติคุณ ดร.สุธรรม อารีกุล ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านกีฏวิทยาเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็น ผู้นำทางการศึกษาที่มีวิสัยทัศน์ และเป็นบุคคลสำคัญในการพัฒนาหลักสูตรการเรียนการสอน งานวิจัย และเครือข่ายความร่วมมือทางวิชาการทั้งในและต่างประเทศ ท่านมีบทบาทสำคัญในการ ปฏิรูปการศึกษาในมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ โดยเน้นการสร้างความร่วมมือระหว่างศาสตร์ต่าง ๆ เพื่อให้เกิดการบูรณาการองค์ความรู้ที่ทันสมัย
✔ วางรากฐานให้กับวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬาในประเทศไทย
- เป็นผู้ริเริ่มให้มีการจัดตั้ง คณะวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬา มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ ซึ่งเป็นคณะแรก ๆ ของประเทศที่มุ่งเน้นการพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬาให้มีมาตรฐานระดับสากล
- สนับสนุนการพัฒนาหลักสูตรที่ส่งเสริม สุขภาพและสมรรถภาพทางกายของประชาชน
✔ ผลักดันการจัดตั้งคณะวิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพและการกีฬา
- เล็งเห็นความสำคัญของการบูรณาการระหว่าง วิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพและวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬา เพื่อรองรับความต้องการด้านสุขภาพของประชาชนและนักกีฬา
- สนับสนุนให้มีการพัฒนาองค์ความรู้ที่สามารถนำไปใช้ในการดูแลสุขภาพของคนทุกช่วงวัย
✔ การพัฒนางานวิจัยและสร้างองค์ความรู้ใหม่ให้กับประเทศ
- งานวิจัยด้านกีฏวิทยาของท่านมีส่วนช่วย พัฒนาแนวทางการควบคุมแมลงศัตรูพืช อย่างยั่งยืน ซึ่งเป็นประโยชน์อย่างมากต่อเกษตรกรไทย
- ส่งเสริมให้มี งานวิจัยด้านสุขภาพและการกีฬา เพื่อพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตของประชาชน
การจากไปที่เป็นความสูญเสียอันยิ่งใหญ่ของแวดวงการศึกษาและวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬาไทย
การจากไปของ ศาสตราจารย์เกียรติคุณ ดร.สุธรรม อารีกุล เป็นความสูญเสียครั้งสำคัญของวงการการศึกษาไทย ท่านเป็นบุคคลที่มี คุณธรรม วิสัยทัศน์ และความมุ่งมั่น ที่หาได้ยาก ท่านได้วางรากฐานที่มั่นคงให้กับการศึกษาทางด้านวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬา สุขภาพ และการเกษตร ซึ่งจะเป็นแนวทางให้คนรุ่นหลังได้นำไปต่อยอดพัฒนาเพื่อประโยชน์ของสังคมไทยต่อไป

Professor Emeritus Dr. Sutham Areekul was a renowned entomologist, whose expertise and research significantly contributed to agriculture, pest control, and biodiversity conservation in Thailand. His work helped revolutionize sustainable pest management, greatly benefiting the country’s agricultural sector.
Beyond his scientific achievements, he was a visionary leader in higher education, particularly in the field of sports science and health. He played a key role in the establishment of the Faculty of Sports Science at Kasetsart University in 1989 and was instrumental in its evolution into the Faculty of Sports Science and Health in 2024, ensuring that the university remained at the forefront of sports and health education in Thailand.
